Dear delegates
With immense pleasure, I, Radhika Rathi, welcome you to the Shishukunj MUN 2022. I’m extremely delighted to serve as your chairperson for the Cabinet of Kuwait,1990.
A little about myself - I am a twelfth grader, studying Commerce with Applied Mathematics, aspiring to pursue Finance in future. Apart from being an art and music buff, I also enjoy reading and particularly admire the work of Khaled Hosseini. I’ve been MUNing for the last 6 years and have an inclination towards crisis committees. MUNs have helped me become a more confident person and I hope this conference does the same for you.
The agenda revolves around the commencement of Iraqi Invasion of Kuwait (August 2, 1990) and the repercussions of the same. The committee will function as a joint crisis
committee with the Council of Representatives of Iraq, meaning that the decision taken by one will have a direct impact on the other. Now that the Iraqi invasion has begun, it is up to you, the Ministers of Kuwait, to decide its fate.
The background guides will help you in gaining a deeper understanding of the committee as well as the agenda.

Organ Description
The Cabinet of Kuwait is a continuous crisis committee established in the backdrop of the Iraq invasion of Kuwait in 1990. The committee begins on August 2, 1990 at 2 a.m, the day Iraq began invading Kuwait. As the ministers of the Kuwaiti Cabinet, it is your responsibility to defend Kuwait from further invasion, at the same time ensuring that this crisis does not bring turmoil in the nation.
Note- The committee will function as a Joint Crisis Committee along with the Council of Representatives of Iraq. This implies that the decision taken by one committee will have a tremendous impact on the other.
Agenda: Iraq invasion of Kuwait
Set in the backdrop of 1990, the agenda addresses the commencement of the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait. The invasion has its roots in the Iran-Iraq war when Kuwait had granted a loan of about 14 billion dollars to Iraq. Failure of repayment by Iraq and refusal in any relaxation by Kuwait is said to have been the starting point for this conflict. Ever since, the two parties have put various accusations on each other, aggravating the situation further. Under the Cabinet of Kuwait, the delegates will be required to think upon solutions to prevent further invasion and reduce the degree of this conflict’s consequences on Kuwait.
