Dear Delegates,

Namaste, with immense pleasure I would like to welcome you all to the Shishukunj Model United Nations Conference 2022. I, Khushi Khanna, am privileged to serve as the Chairperson of the United Nations High Commissioner of Refugees. Apart from having energy 24*7, I am a great problem solver so please feel free to reach out to me regarding anything that troubles you. You will find me experimenting with a lot of new things that cross my path. I am currently in grade 11, and being a commerce with applied mathematics and entrepreneurship student am looking forward to exploring the world of business management and mass media. I have been a keen MUNer for the past 5 years and trust me it has transformed my overall personality. We often fall into problems and think that it’s a big deal but believe me it’s nothing as compared to the problems of those who have no choice but to leave their homes and have to go through a lot in the process of finding a new one. The migration of refugees due to life-threatening situations around

the globe has been one of the major crises and thus is a great agenda for discussion.

Delegates, MUNs are all about debate, discussion, and problem-solving but above all, it’s about holistic learning which is the final takeaway. Looking forward to meeting you all soon and I hope you all have fun.

All the best!

Yours sincerely

Khushi Khanna

Organ Description

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees was founded in 1950. It works with the objective to safeguard the rights of refugees and focuses on the ongoing crisis in different areas of the world. Acting as the humanitarian authority, it further upholds various fundamental principles identified by States. The executive body is a representative body of around 80 nations that are pertinent to refugee situations in various manners.

Agenda: Improving Pathways for Migration and Resettlement of Refugees

The potential crisis of displaced people is a matter of concern for all countries around the globe. Every day millions of people are forced to leave their home country typically because of war, persecution, climate change or political upheavals. The responsibility of their migration ultimately falls into the hands of the host countries to protect them and safeguard their resettlement in their country, and also ensure suitable frameworks for improving the pathways to asylum. Since the refugees after leaving their home territory are not assisted by their own governments, in this case, the role of international organizations comes into play. Even after taking refuge in another country their integration into the host society remains questionable, social integration has never been easy to implement, mainly because of associated stigmas, prejudices, fear, racism and unacceptance. These are seen in all spheres of society namely economic, political, and cultural. This committee intends to explore and find solutions for reinstating and improving the process of the migration of refugees systematically and to improve the existing solutions.
