UNITED NATIONS COMMISSION ON THE STATUS OF WOMEN

Agenda: Addressing Socio-Economic Problems for the Empowerment of Women

Letter from the Chairperson
Nishka Kankaria.JPG

Dear Delegates,

My name is Nishka Kankaria and I am an 11th grader. I am excited as well as privileged to work along with a great bureau and an amazing secretariat.

I am a commerce student and want to pursue my career in management. I am great at making jokes, always have been- some things never change. My friends seem to be bored with them but I'm sure you all have a better sense of humor. Other than making jokes and debating, I like to draw, paint, listen to music and travel. My favorite singers are Taylor Swift and Harry Styles.

I have attended many local and international MUN’s and in my experience I can definitely say that MUN’s can teach you a lot about how to improve yourself. My MUN journey began by participating in Shishukunj MUN as most of you did or will. Gradually I got the

opportunity to participate in many more MUNs. It also made me realize how as a person I couldn’t see the problems of other people around the world who were in much difficult situations.

UNCSW is a commission under ECOSOC. We as a Bureau have chosen UNCSW as the committee as it provides more insights to the problems related to women which are known but have no proper solutions. Women in the society despite many efforts continue to face discrimination and we as a committee aim to discuss solutions for the same and find consensus. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me and I’d be happy to help you out. I hope that every single delegate has fun and takes something fruitful back home.

Thank you and see you all soon!

Regards

Nishka Kankaria

Organ Description

The United Nations Commission on the Status of Women is an important functional commission of the ECOSOC that is solely and exclusively dedicated to the promotion of gender equality and women empowerment. Established in 1946, it plays an instrumental role in promoting women’s rights, documenting the reality of women’s lives throughout the world, and shaping global standards on gender equality and the empowerment of women.

Agenda: Addressing the Socio-economic Problems for the Empowerment of Women

Women are mistreated, misjudged, underappreciated, and economically affected by their society and surroundings on a daily basis. There has to be a modern world where gender equality and women empowerment are not utopic subjects. In this committee, we want the delegates to focus on socio-economic problems and find solutions that would help in enhancing the condition as well as the dignity of women effectively. As a committee, we also envision that every economy becomes sustainable with gender equality being its core. We emphasize acknowledging women's empowerment when finding a solution for the same. Not only their empowerment as whole but individual, social, educational, and economic empowerment too.
