GENERAL ASSEMBLY

Letter from the Under-Secretary-Generals

Maitreyi-Likhit

Namaste,

My name is Maitreyi Kapse, and I am elated to serve as the Under Secretary General for General Assembly in the 7th iteration of the Shishukunj Model United Nations. I am currently studying humanities with core mathematics and have a deep interest in international politics and economics. I have been participating in MUNs since the 5th grade. After a rocky start in my initial conferences (which I later realized is a universal experience), I have gained immensely from participating in MUNs. From developed public speaking and better knowledge of worldly affairs to becoming a confident orator, MUNs have helped me grow in true sense.

I am Likhit Sethi, and it is my privilege to serve as the Under-Secretary-General: General Assembly Affairs of Shishukunj MUN 2022. I have opted for commerce with applied mathematics and political science. I have been attending MUNs since seventh grade and my experiences have taught me a lot. It has honed my oratory skills and boosted my confidence. A dark chocolate lover and coffee person, I enjoy meeting new people, socializing and exploring new ventures. Apart from being engrossed in novels (preferably thriller, horror or realistic fiction), I like to immerse myself in mesmerizing the beauty of nature.

The General Assembly is one of the six principal organs of the United Nations. It addresses issues of paramount importance ranging from disarmament and human right violations to inclusivity, development, peace and decolonization. Entailing six main committees, where all 193 member states receive equal representation, it is by far the most representative organ that works towards achieving world peace and harmony, embodying what the United Nations truly represents.

This year, under the General Assembly, we have five dynamic committees- UNDP, SOCHUM, UNHCR, AIPPM and WFPM with agendas that are nothing short of enthralling. Agendas ranging from inclusion of minorities and provision of humanitarian facilities in combat areas to improvement of migration pathways and condition of prisons and prisoners worldwide, have been carefully selected to result in enlightening discussions. We hope that this conference will be an enriching experience for all the delegates.

Feel free to reach out to us in case of any doubt/query, we will be happy to assist you. Looking forward to meeting all of you and we hope you have a great time!

Regards

Maitreyi Kapse & Likhit Sethi
